| Today's goal - fix those unsightly errors in our google sitemap.xml file |
Well, like it or not, in order for any web site to thrive, it must have respectable placement in Google's search. As bewildering as it is, we've implemented many of the SEO tips and tricks we published on our site. We've rewritten our pages to be "seo friendly" - which basically means - lets the search engine robots read and index all the content on our site. Not an easy task when using database driven pages that result in indecipherable file names that speed up site loading and optimize database performance.
We've optimized our meta tags, we've included rich content with many articles (this is after all an information site) that include our search terms etc. etc. etc. One final step is submitting a site map to Google. Since robots are still just robots and not people with brains, they need help disseminating all the links and content categories. Google in its kindness, has implemented a system to help web marketers get their sites indexed. Task of the day - compile an xml sitemap with all relevant links. The previous sitemap we submitted returned a few errors which the robots didn't like - apparently we did not include a www where we should have and vice versa. To read more about the xml submission guidelines, head on over to Google's webmaster tools - they offer quite a few resources to help you publicize your site in a "Google friendly" format.

p.s.: quick tip of the day - to see which pages on your site Google includes in its index, go to Google search and type the following: site:yoursiteurl.com (replace "yoursiteurl" with your domain name)
