Top 10 List of why you should stop writing Top 10 List Articles

research article writing to offer good content

OK, I know it's an easy way to get some more articles under your belt and freshen up your site with some new content. But, wouldn't you be better off writing something a little more - original?

Here's our top 10 list on why you should stop writing top 10 lists (now say that 10 times fast)

1) Top 10 lists are just too common, meaning that anyone who has read a top 10 list on the same topic before, will just pass over your list and go read something useful elsewhere.

2) Even if you do have something innovative, fresh and unique to say, readers will likely pass over your article just because of the title, see #1 above for reason.

3) You are better off taking a little more time and writing a separate short article about each item in your list. Your obvious benefit is 10 times more content. Your readers' benefit - more in depth analysis or commentary on the information they seek.

4) Writing about each list item separately will land you more credibility as the source to watch and refer to on the topic (that is what you want right?)

5) Top 10 lists probably won't get you those click-throughs and traffic you're seeking unless you really go out of your way to make and extensive list with lots of examples and information. This list item is just another reason to follow list item #3....

6) Most article writing and blog publishing newbies have read some top lists on article writing tips which usually, for lack of better ideas, tell them to write a top 10 list.... Which they do - this turns into a vicious cycle - please help us break it.

7) Top 10 lists are not alone in the list publishing world. There are top 3 lists, top 5 lists, top 8 lists, (you get the point right?) So how much will your article or blog stand out in the crowd.

8) Your last list item probably just made the list because you promised 10 and you had to deliver 10 - but really, on any other day you wouldn't find a way to associate it with your original list or find a reasonable justification for writing about it.

9) If all else fails and you just have to write that list, please keep it fresh and original... (like this list) Don't write something that has been written to death, it will not do your credibility or reputation any good. And if you can possibly manage it, resist the temptation of naming your article "Top 10 list" of whatever.

10) See #8 above
